DNCOE & Local Education
How DNCOE Works With Local Education Partners
How DNCOE Fits Into Public Education
Del Norte County Office of Education is a local educational agency (LEA) with county-level responsibilities for leadership, oversight, coordination, specialized services, and county-operated programs. DNCOE works with schools, charter schools, other educational agencies, families, Tribal partners, and community organizations to strengthen educational opportunities throughout Del Norte County.
Different Roles, Shared Responsibility for Students
Each educational organization has its own responsibilities. School districts and charter schools operate their own programs and services and are responsible for the students they serve. Individual schools provide instruction and day-to-day school services. DNCOE supports this local educational system through countywide leadership, expertise, coordination, oversight, professional learning, technology, student services, and other specialized support.
DNCOE supports and coordinates this work but does not replace the responsibilities of individual schools or educational agencies.

A Single-District County
Del Norte County has a unique educational structure as a single-district county. DNCOE and the local school district serve the same geographic area and work closely together, but they remain distinct public education agencies with separate responsibilities. This close relationship allows for collaboration while preserving DNCOE’s county-level leadership, oversight, and accountability roles.
How DNCOE Supports Local Education Agencies
DNCOE supports local educational agencies through expertise, resources, coordination, and partnerships across five areas of support.
