Hmong Cultural Center

Supporting Culture, Connection, and Community

DNCOE supports the Hmong Cultural Center as a place for cultural education, family engagement, and community connection in Del Norte County. Working with local Hmong families and community leaders, the Center creates opportunities for Hmong students and families to strengthen connections to their culture and traditions while sharing Hmong culture with the broader Del Norte community.

DNCOE helps support and fund this work as part of its commitment to culturally responsive education, family engagement, and opportunities that help students stay connected to their communities.

Cultural Learning & Family Engagement

The Hmong Cultural Center provides opportunities for students and families to learn, participate, and connect through culturally focused activities. After-school activities and family engagement help create spaces where young people can learn from community members, strengthen their understanding of Hmong culture and traditions, and build relationships across generations.

These experiences also provide opportunities for students to develop leadership, teamwork, and a stronger sense of connection to their heritage and community.

Sharing Hmong Culture With Del Norte County

An important part of the Center’s work is creating opportunities for the broader community to experience and learn about Hmong culture. Cultural events, activities, and celebrations provide a space for Hmong students and families to share traditions while helping build greater understanding and appreciation throughout Del Norte County.

Hmong New Year

Hmong New Year is one of the community’s most significant cultural celebrations and an important opportunity for families, students, and community members to come together. Traditionally celebrated after the harvest season, Hmong New Year has long provided a time for families to reconnect, honor cultural traditions, celebrate the completion of the year, and welcome a new beginning.

In Del Norte County, the annual celebration brings together generations of the Hmong community while giving students opportunities to participate in cultural traditions, performances, teamwork, and community leadership. The celebration also welcomes the broader Del Norte community to learn about and experience Hmong culture.
