Del Norte County Office of Education
E3 Summer Youth Program
Experience. Education. Employment.

The E3 Summer Youth Program gives Del Norte County high school students an opportunity to build workplace skills, explore careers, earn a paycheck, and gain real-world experience with local employers.
E3 — Experience, Education, Employment — is offered through a partnership between the Del Norte County Office of Education, SMART Workforce Center, and local businesses and organizations. Through work-readiness training and paid summer work experiences, students develop skills that can help prepare them for employment, college, career training, and life after high school.
Learn, Work and Earn
E3 is designed for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interested in gaining meaningful work experience during the summer.
Participants have the opportunity to:
- Earn a paycheck through a paid summer work experience
- Earn up to 10 high school elective credits
- Learn workplace expectations and professional skills
- Build a resume and strengthen interview skills
- Develop communication, teamwork, and customer service skills
- Explore careers and connect with local employers
- Gain experience that can help prepare them for future education and employment
How E3 Works
Work-Readiness Training
Students begin by preparing for the workplace and developing skills employers value. Training has included topics such as work ethic, teamwork, communication, conflict management, customer service, budgeting, resume development, and interviewing.
Connect With Local Employers
Students have opportunities to meet and interview with participating businesses, agencies, and organizations throughout Del Norte County.
Gain Real-World Experience
Selected students are matched with participating worksites where they can gain hands-on experience, learn from local professionals, and contribute to their community while earning wages.
Earn High School Credit
In addition to their paid work experience, eligible participants can earn up to 10 high school elective credits through the program.
Applications and Program Updates
E3 applications and program information are announced each spring in preparation for the summer program.
