Welcome to the Communications Department!
Proudly Serving the Students, Families, and Staff of Del Norte County
Our Mission
The Communications Department strengthens the connection between our schools and the community through clear, timely, and transparent communication. We tell the stories of our students, support staff and school leaders, guide public information during emergencies, and ensure that families have the information they need to feel confident and involved in their child’s education.
Our work supports both the Del Norte County Office of Education (DNCOE) and the Del Norte Unified School District (DNUSD)—two organizations that operate together to serve every child in Del Norte County.
What We Do
Public Information
We lead external communications across the district and county, ensuring consistent, accurate, and accessible information for families, staff, and community partners.
This includes publications, announcements, board updates, public statements, and districtwide messaging.
Media & Public Relations
We serve as the primary point of contact for reporters and media outlets.
Our team coordinates interviews, develops press releases, and works proactively to highlight student and staff achievements throughout the region and beyond.

Family & Community Engagement
We support and promote district events, school-based initiatives, listening sessions, and community outreach efforts—helping families stay informed, connected, and engaged.
Digital Communications & Social Media
We manage DNUSD’s digital presence across multiple districtwide communcition platforms.
Our team creates and curates timely content, event coverage, student stories, and districtwide campaigns, alerts and notifications to keep our community informed in real time.
Website Services (DNCOE & DNUSD)
We oversee content strategy, development, and maintenance for all district and school websites.

Emergency & Crisis Communications
During critical incidents, weather events, or safety concerns, the Communications Department provides rapid, accurate updates through multiple channels.
We coordinate closely with district leadership, site administrators, law enforcement, and local agencies to ensure clear communication that prioritizes student and staff safety.
Marketing & Branding
We develop campaigns that showcase programs, promote programs and key initiatives, and highlight the strengths of our district.
This includes advertising, visual branding, storytelling, and community awareness initiatives that elevate the work happening in our classrooms every day.
